Heated steering wheel, can you get it when the steering wheel is custom built?

Many people who order custom steering wheels ask if it is possible to keep the heating function. The short answer is: Yes, in many cases . But there are also exceptions, and it is good to know before you order.

How does heated steering wheel work?

A heated steering wheel is made with heating wires inside the steering wheel itself, the wire is as thin as a hair. These are controlled by the car's original system. When we rebuild a steering wheel, we always try to use the original heating unit, or install a new solution that works with the car's electronics without error messages. This is often in connection with a steering wheel "Facelifting".

When is it possible to retain heat?

On many newer cars it is quite straightforward. Especially on:

-BMW

- Mercedes-Benz

- Audi

-Volkswagen

-Porsche

- and more

If your car has heating from the factory, there is a good chance that we can transfer it to a custom steering wheel. We get a lot of inquiries about Heating in Mercedes, an exception is Mercedes between 2012-2019, for now.

If the car does not already have heating, we cannot retrofit it, but it is certainly possible for those who want it. We can only offer the necessary modules and heating wires in the steering wheel, the remaining process is done at your own risk.

When is it not possible?

Some cars have solutions that cannot be safely converted. This often applies to models with unusual airbag modules, special heating systems or electronics that do not work with the heating function in our steering wheels. You can still install a steering wheel without heating, the only thing is that you will lose the heating and get an internal error code.

That's why we always ask for pictures and part numbers, so we can check before we move forward.

When the heating function can be retained, you can still choose:

- Carbon in various types

- Marker on top

- Flat bottom

- Thicker grip

- LED Display

We build in the heating function in a way that fits the factory system, so everything works as before.

When it comes to the LED Display, there are heating wires all the way around except for the area where the LED display is integrated. This is to prevent the display from being scorched/damaged.
